Tony prefers to take photographs and a video of the animal to be sure of capturing the true likeness and character of your pet. Where this is not possible, he can work from your own photographs which must be of a good quality and not taken using a flash. (Flash can make the pupils of the eyes contract and can also give a harsh impression of colours).
It is vital that he can see the true colour of the eyes and coat. It is best to provide a variety of photographs together with a clear explanation of your preferred pose (full body or just head), preferred background if any (animals usually look best on a plain, non-distracting background). A pencil sketch of the proposed picture can be emailed to you for approval.
If Tony decides he is unable to produce other than the highest quality painting from the photographs provided, he will not undertake the commission.
If, as in many cases, your pet is no longer with us and the photographs are not of a good enough quality, Tony will contact you and discuss whether he thinks he can do your pet justice.
As you can see from the other subjects on display, Tony does not restrict himself to commissions for animals. If you have a child's portrait in mind, or (perhaps more prosaically!) a pet steam locomotive, car etc that you would like immortalised in oil, please contact him. Good quality photographs will also be needed for these subjects.
